What We Do
Borouge produces innovative plastics solutions in end-use plastics applications throughout the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Africa.
Borouge’s range of differentiated products for highvalue infrastructure applications include water, gas and industrial pipe systems, power and communication cables, advanced packaging and automotive components. Borouge is also the exclusive supplier of the entire Borealis product line.
Using Borealis’ unique Borstar® technology in its products, Borouge facilitates the manufacture of highperformance, high-value plastic products that are vital to modern living. The advantages of Borstar are well recognised in the industry and are central to Borouge’s
success.
To meet ever-increasing market demand, Borouge plans a multi-billion dollar expansion at its production base in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The project, ‘Borouge 2’, is due to commence production in 2010. This world-scale project will triple existing production capacity to two million tonnes per annum, including, for the first time, polypropylene.
What We Do - Distribution
An efficient logistics system is the key to success for Borouge. With production in the Middle East and a customer base in 100 countries stretching across North and South East Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East itself.
Product is packed in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and sent via roll on/roll off ships to major local depots before distribution direct to customer ports around the world.
The Borouge integrated IT systems means customers experience a seamless ordering process, with competitive leadtimes.
Recent innovations also include the introduction of an elogistics hub – under which Borouge customers will be able to track order status via a secure online environment.
Production Facility
Central to Borouge's competitive advantages is our production facility in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.
Borouge invested US$1.2 billion to build the first petrochemical facility in the Middle East to be equipped with Borealis' proprietary Borstar ® Enhanced PE polymerization technology.
Capacity
A 600,000 tonnes ethylene cracker and two Borstar bimodal polyethylene lines, each capable of producing 225,000 tonnes of bimodal high density and Borstar Enhanced Polyethylene. Debottlenecking in 1Q 2005 will increase capacity to 580,000 tonnes.
Location
The 2.6 sq. kilometres (260 hectares) petrochemical complex is located in Ruwais, about 250 km west of Abu Dhabi City in the United Arab Emirates.
Other Facilities
Other facilities at the Ruwais plant include PE utilities and facilities for product handling and distribution.
Borstar Technology
Borstar Technology is central to Borouge’s competitive edge over its competitors. The innovative technology for polyethylene production has ignited keen market interest since its commercial debut in 1995.
The Borstar Technology process produces innovative bimodal products which:
• Combine excellent mechanical strength and product processability
• Are used in a broad range of product applications
• Are cost effective
• Allow material savings of up to 30 per cent
• Are environmentally-friendly
The unique balance of properties and processing is made possible by Borstar Technology, which combines bimodal polymerization with controlled comonomer addition, yielding enhanced polyethylene with broad molecular weight distribution.
Borstar products are designed to be high-performance and high-value. Their superior performance enables significant down-gauging and reduced product weight for high performance packaging applications, wire & cable jacketing and superior pipe systems.
Borouge’s Borstar Enhanced PE products cover a wide range of application. Example of products and their typical application are shown below.
Borouge is also the single sales channel for Borealis products in Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Sales and Marketing efforts are managed out of Singapore, with full-fledged sales office in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Mumbai, Beirut and Saudi Arabia as well as agents in Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Pakistan Nepal, Iran, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, East Africa, Korea, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
