Ruwais Fertilizer Industries Ltd (FERTIL), a member of ADNOC Group of companies, was established in October 1980 as a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and TOTAL, with a shareholding ratio of 2:1 respectively. Construction of a processing plant began in 1980 and production started in December 1983. The prime objective behind establishing the company was to utilize the lean gas supplied from the onshore fields of BAB, ASAB and Thammama-C, to manufacture fertilizers and to market them locally and internationally. The plant is located in Ruwais Industrial Zone, about 235 km from the city of Abu Dhabi. It comprises an ammonia and urea processing plant. The installed capacity of the ammonia plant is 1,000 MTPD and 1,500 MTPD for urea. The plants have fully integrated utility units with storage facilities. The company has been continuously improving its technology and productivity. Today, ammonia production stands at 1,310 MTPD and urea 1,850 MTPD.

The markets for FERTIL's products have expanded considerably since its first shipment in 1983. Whereas the first few years of exports were largely directed to the Indian subcontinent and China, today 10% of the annual Urea production is marketed locally within the United Arab Emirates, and the balance is exported to various South East Asian markets, East Africa, the USA and South America as well as India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. FERTIL has succeeded in establishing an excellent reputation for its Brand Name and Logo in all markets. A minimal incidence of quality claims over the years, and a dedicated culture of maintaining a close relationship with our clients, have ensured a very high customer retention rate.

Vision
To be the first Choice Company producing and supplying of environment friendly industrial fertilizers.

Mission
Manufacture and market Urea in accordance with international HSE standards and quality management system (OHSAS 1800, ISO 14000 and ISO 9001).

Ensure the productivity and integrity of the Company, staff and assets with emphasis on UAE Nationals development. Strengthen cooperation with other stakeholders.

MAJOR PROJECTS
FERTIL owns and operates a 1000 MTPD Ammonia plant designed by Haldor Topsoe and a 1500 MTPD Stamicarbon designed Urea plant since end of 1983.The Plants currently produce 1310 & 1850 MTPD of ammonia and prilled urea respectively.

Urea Debottlenecking Project (UDP)
FERTIL is undertaking the Debottlenecking of the Urea plant to
achieve the following objectives:
• Convert its presently available 90,000 MTPY of surplus NH3 into Urea, utilizing CO2 recovered from the flue gas of the reformer.
• Supply feed stock Urea to the new Melamine Plant.
• Process the streams coming from the new Melamine plant.
• Replaced prilled urea with granular Urea

After implementation of UDP, the Urea plant will process about 2,700 MTPD as 70% solution out of which about 800 MTPD will be sent to the Melamine plant and 1900 MTPD will be
Granulated.

The new Melamine plant will consume about 800 MTPD of Urea and send back NH3 and CO2 corresponding to about 400 MTPD of Urea. With the Melamine plant not in operation, the revamped Urea plant will produce 2300 MTPD of Granular urea. The new Granulation unit is, however, designed for a capacity of 2500 MTPD.

License and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for Urea Plant modifications has been obtained from Urea Casale of Switzerland whereas the same for the CO2 Recovery Plant has been obtained from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan and that of Granulation Unit from Uhde Fertilizer Technology of Netherlands. EPC contract has been awarded and project completion is scheduled for July 2009.

New Ammonia / Urea Plants (FERTIL 2)
A Detailed Feasibility Study was conducted by Jacobs Consultancy U.S.A with cost estimates obtained from leading LEPC contractors after which the Shareholders approved preparation of Technical Terms of Reference for installing a 3500 MTPD Granular Urea Plant supported by an adequate Ammonia plant and associated Utilities units which shall be constructed near the existing Plant in Ruwais.

The new facilities shall be operational by end of 2011.

ACHIEVEMENTS
In its journey for more than 25 years, FERTIL continued its commitments for modernization, facing challenges to achieve better and higher targets in all operational fields with the valuable contribution, loyalty and full dedication of all FERTIL employees and the support of the shareholders; ADNOC and TOTAL.

In the field of Health, Safety and Environment, the company reached another milestone in completing 13.5 continuous years without injuries in December 2006, as well as completing 12 million man-hours without Lost Time Incident in October 2006. Besides these Safety records, the company received the ISO 9001-2000 Certificate for Quality Management System, achieved the Dubai Quality Appreciation Program Award for industrial sector (March 2006), achieved the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award for industrial sector (June 2006), and also the RoSPA Certificates for the last 6 years in succession, from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA of UK).

In the area of production, the Ammonia Plant achieved a production level of 463,000 Metric Tons, while the Urea production stood at almost 653,000 Metric Tons.

The year 2007 proved to be one of the most successful years in terms of Marketing and Sales activities. Market conditions were optimal and in favor of suppliers i.e. a combination of increased production costs in most areas, as well as favorable crop prices, coupled with an increase in demand when supply was short due to delays in several projects.

FERTIL Marketing Team focused on nearby markets where our strategic geographic location allowed for the highest sales netbacks. Moreover, timely sales took advantage of the market peaks during the year. This strategy resulted in record sales revenues for both Ammonia and Urea. Our ability to export bagged urea, further contributed to our competitiveness in markets like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and East Africa.”

On the Human Resources side, the Company is steadily pursuing its Nationalization Policy. Presently U.A.E. Nationals constitute 63% of the total work force. Further, training and development of U.A.E. Nationals in particular and all employees in general is pursued vigorously to enhance their efficiency and productivity.

To complement and support the vision & mission of FERTIL, the management approved an I.T. Strategy with a time frame of moving five years to provide a guiding framework for the role of information systems & technologies, different divisions and the users to optimize the I.T. resources' utilization and on the concepts that assist the users and business of FERTIL to attain targeted goals and objectives. FERTIL implemented the Balanced ScoreCard, which is a useful
management tool to evaluate the performance and ensure effective application of procedures and policies in an aligned manner towards achieving the company's strategic goals.
