Women in Energy launch the Fourth Annual Leadership Excellence for Women Awards and Symposium

Women leaders in the GCC Energy industry launch the most momentous awards and symposium to honor and empower women.

Dubai, UAE 17 May 2018: Under the patronage of H.E. Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, Kingdom of Bahrain and supported by NOGA, influential women in the energy industry have launched the fourth edition of Leadership Excellence for Women Awards and Symposium (LEWAS). Under the Chairpersonship of Reem Al Ghanim, HR Leader, Saudi Aramco, the Awards Ceremony will take place on 23rd October 2018 at Four Seasons Hotel, Bahrain Bay and the Symposium, on 25th October 2018 at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre.

LEWAS began in 2013 with the objective to Empower, Engage and Elevate women. Since its inception, it has recognized and honored men and women who are not only making a mark in the Energy industry but are also being an advocate for women empowerment in the GCC.  LEWAS seeks to address the challenges and opportunities for women leaders in the Oil and Gas industry. Over the years, LEWAS has gathered women leaders and empowered and motivated women them to engage in discussions and panels to address the issue. Currently, in its fourth year, LEWAS is the fore runner in the GCC to honor talented and influential women, address pressing issues, develop new and better opportunities and create long-lasting collaborations and partnerships across the industry and beyond.

LEWAS celebrates and recognizes capable and accomplished women who demonstrate innovation, leadership, and talent, in both academic and business sectors of the energy industry. The Awards ceremony, held on 23rd October 2018 is dedicated to recognizing women and women advocates. The categories include:

Academic Achievement: A young woman, currently in university, majoring in Science or Engineering, in the field of Energy, who displays exceptional leadership, empowerment, and academic achievement.

Academic of Distinction: A female academic professional with 10 or more years of experience in the Science/ Engineering department, in the energy industry, who is known to actively promote the field, as well as engage in research and lectures, including the development of young women in this area.

Rising Star: A young professional woman with 3-5 years of experience in the energy industry with a degree in science or engineering. She is known as a high performer and someone who is recognized for special achievements within her organization.

Leading with Excellence: A professional woman with 5-15 years of experience in the energy industry with a science/engineering background, who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate leadership skills, excellence in corporate performance and communication, and has had a significant impact on organizational performance.

Woman of Achievement: A professional woman, with 15+ years of experience in the energy industry with a science/ engineering background, who has attained a high rank and utilized her position, influence, and expertise to break down gender bias and initiate positive changes for other women in the industry. She is an able leader who not only strives to build a successful career but also significantly impacts the success of other women professionals and entrepreneurs.

Corporate Champion Recognition: A professional gentleman with 10+ years of experience in the energy industry with a  science/ engineering background, who has gone above and beyond to develop and support women as professionals and potential leaders. He has demonstrated his strong support for women through a proven track record of support and encouraging change in his organization to fully engage and integrate women.

Corporate Excellence Recognition: An organization in the field of energy that has excelled at initiatives to encourage, advance, hire and retain women through inclusive hiring and development practices, as well as developing and implementing innovative Diversity & Inclusion programs.

 

The highly anticipated LEWAS Symposium will be held on 25th October 2018. The objective of the symposium is to celebrate women’s achievements, learn from well-respected women, have an opportunity to network, and improve upon knowledge. The symposium covers important topics such as opportunities for women in downstream, recruitment and many more.

LEWAS is a co-located event of the GDA International Downstream Conference and Exhibition.
